Everett Fancey, M. Eng, P. Eng

Engineering Manager

Everett Fancey has over 30 years Engineering experience spanning a variety of fields; heavy industry, consulting, research and development and education.  Mr. Fancey brings a multi-disciplined (engineering/information technology/science/mathematical) understanding to any project.  Prior to joining Sikumiut, Mr. Fancey managed an education department with a work force of approximately 100 engineers, technologists, technicians, and scientists from a variety of disciplines.

 

David Scruton, M.E.S.

Senior Scientist

David Scruton has in excess of 30 years of experience as research scientist and research manager working with federal and provincial governments and as an environmental consultant.  He coordinated and conducted a diverse research program on knowledge of relationships between fish and their habitats, effects of human activities on fish and fish habitat, means to mitigate and compensate for habitat losses, and application of knowledge to development of models and tools for predictions, impact assessment, and habitat development.  He led and managed a number of large national and international programs on fish habitat research and conducted collaborative research with the utility sector, pulp and paper companies, fishing industry, and transportation sector.  He was, and still is, active in academia as an adjunct professor and supervisor of graduate students.  He has authored over 200 scientific and technical publications including: 70+ in scientific journals, 40+ technical reports, 10+ special publications, 7 book chapters, 70+ conference proceedings, and 20 + popular articles or internal reports.   Since joining Sikumiut as Senior Scientist, he has assumed project lead on several ongoing environmental effects monitoring programs, baseline studies, and developed a discussion paper on the biological and ecological evolution of hydroelectric reservoirs.  He is also representing Sikumiut and Canada on an international expert group (IEG) to assist groups in Sweden to resolving fish passage issues at hydroelectric developments.

 

Larry LeDrew, M. Sc.

Aquatic Ecologist

Larry has over 30 years experience in the science and environmental field.  Mr. LeDrew has conducted fisheries research for government (DFO) and has been responsible for environmental assessment and research for over 20 years with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro (Nalcor). Larry has had extensive involvement in the management of environmental issues associated with electricity generation and transmission and most recently, prior to his retirement from Nalcor in July, 2008 was the lead for the environmental assessment for Lower Churchill (Generation) Project. In this position Larry was responsible for the preparation of the Environmental Impact Statement as well as for the planning, design, conduct, review and approval of over 70 environmental baseline studies.  Mr. LeDrew was also responsible for negotiations with DFO for the determination of Harmful Alteration, Disturbance and Destruction (HADD) of productive fish habitat associated with the Project, the development of a strategy to address the No Net Loss Principle of the DFO and oversaw the preparation of the suite of fish habitat compensation options currently under consideration for the Lower Churchill Project.

 

Guylaine Joncas

Manager of Operations, Goose Bay

Ms. Joncas has successfully been managing small to medium sized businesses for the last 20 years. This required her to be very versatile and familiar with all of the lines of service provided to the clients by her employers. She often worked as project manager and directly participated in service delivery. She was responsible for daily decision making, growth and success of these businesses.

Ms. Joncas is very well known in Labrador and on the Lower North Shore of Quebec for her project management and logistic support to Clients. She has established a great working relationship with the business industry and community leaders throughout these areas. She was a member of the Lower North Shore Chamber of Commerce and now the Labrador North Chamber of Commerce. She currently volunteers for the Minor Hockey Association, Ecole Boreale’s recycling project and does fund raising for the Girl Guides of Canada. She is a very active member of the community of  Happy Valley-Goose Bay.

Ms. Joncas is fully bilingual as French is her first language. Her primary place of residence was Lourdes de Blanc Sablon, Quebec and her management experience make her a great asset to all Sikumiut’s Clients projects.

 

Suzanne Thompson, BSc., M.E.S. Candidate.

Junior Biologist

Suzanne has a Bachelor of Science in Biology, and is currently completing a Masters in Environmental Science.  With a focus in aquatic sciences, she has completed coursework in Fisheries Resource Management, Ecology, Environmental Risk Assessment, and Environmental Policy and Regulations. Suzanne has practical field experience in both freshwater and marine environments, and has contributed in the collection and analysis of environmental baseline data collection, including water and sediment quality data, fish data, and littoral zone habitat mapping.  Because of her general statistical knowledge, she has also contributed to the analysis of socioeconomic data, assisting in the preparation of reports, and Environmental Protection Plans.

 

Grant Vivian, B. Tech., Dipl. Geomatics

Geomatics Specialist

As Geomatics Lead of Sikumiut, Grants’ primary responsibilities include traditional resource development, environmental field work, strategic planning, GIS design and analysis, report writing, and project management.  Grant became an integral part of Sikumiut’s environmental team upon arrival where he has completed several large baseline projects including winter lake mapping using Ground Penetrating Radar, a science new to the region of Labrador.  His previous work experience relates directly to the northern regions where he used satellite technology to process high resolution river ice charts and iceberg maps off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.  Grant has valuable international experience working independently in surveying and GIS technology where he gained extensive knowledge in dimensional control concepts for structural design.  His technical expertise spans a broad spectrum of Geomatics including cartographic map analysis, satellite image processing, underwater acoustical systems, surveying and GIS technologies.
